World Travel Directories
World travel research is an adventure in itself, and it pays to have as much quality help as you can get. The first time I went on a round the world trip, I did so with no research whatsoever. After several embarrassing moments (such as “what country is Singapore in?” and “I need a visa to get into Vietnam?”) it became apparent that some study was in order. Here are some world travel directories I’ve found very useful over the years:
Airtreks.com. This is a great website for planning round the world travel. You can create your own itinerary, or choose from dozens of their specials. You can expect to travel to seven or eight locations around the world for less than $3,000.
Rough Guide’s “First Time” series. I used their “First Time in Asia” series the last time I went (though it wasn’t my first) and the information is incredibly valuable and concise. These are among my favorite guides, which includes full travel visa directories, vaccination requirements, history of each country and the highlights involved. Rather than detailing the best hotels along a popular street, the “First Time” series gives you just enough information to get you there, while allowing you to explore on your own. After all, who needs a three hundred page guidebook on Bangkok?
Perpetualtravel.com Arguably the best of the world travel directories. Expect to spend hours on this site, as you go over in exhausting detail every step required (or advisable) in order to plan for long-term world travel. I cannot recommend this high enough. Use these three world travel directories to plan your dream trip; hwoever, as a word of caution, make sure you avoid the minutiae by buying your tickets first; then, you have no excuse for bailing out. |
