Motorcycle Tents

Motorcycle tents are a vital addition to any long ride. For those who have made the pilgrimage to Sturgess, you will have no doubt seen the hundreds of tents lined up along each other the closer you get. There are several ways to pack your tents, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Motorcycle tents with trailers
Tents for you and your bike
Motorcycle tents in saddlebags (throw over or mount)

Let’s look at each of these three in a little more detail.

Motorcycle tents with trailers. This set up is ideal for someone who is in it for the long haul, preferably a couple traveling together. The trailer can protect your belongings better than most saddlebags, and provides more room for long term traveling materials (extra clothes, cooking stove, etc. )

Tents for you and your bike. Recently I came across a site that promotes a tent with two rooms; the first is for you, and the second room is specifically for your bike. These tents are perfect for folks looking to protect their bike (and its attached gear) not only from theft, but also the elements. You can learn more about this from Bikertent.com.

Motorcycle tents and saddlebags. Here you have a choice between the detachable variety (throw over) or the permanent variety (mount). Either ones are large enough for you to throw your tent in quite easily. Of the three options, this one is most suited for the low maintenance camper, or someone who is only traveling for a few days.

As you can see, there are several ways to make motorcycle tents work with your packing set up; no matter which one you choose, ensure that your motorcycle (and trailer, if applicable) can handle the weight. It’s far better to find out your bike’s too heavy in your yard than in the middle of Nevada. Trust me…
