High Sierra Brand Clothing

Is High Sierra brand clothing a myth?

One of the missions of Travel-Smarts.com is to educate our readers on all aspects of travel; sometimes, this includes dispelling myths and misconceptions travelers may have. One common misconception is that High Sierra produces outdoor sporting wear. Sorry Virginia, but there is no such thing as High Sierra brand clothing.

As someone who spends the majority of his life on the road, I’ve often found sporting wear with synthetic fibers superior to their cotton-based counterparts; they breathe better, dry faster, and provide better insulation. The brand of clothing I use the most (and I’m not being paid to say this) is Patagonia. Here are a few clothing options High Sierra fans will appreciate from Patagonia:

Great sweater: M’s Synchilla Marsupial. I’ve had this sweater now for almost a year, and it has become a must-have for all camping trips. The synthetic fibers provide a great deal of warmth, perfect for sitting around a campfire after a long day of trekking (I do a lot in the High Sierra region of Yosemite). As with most outdoor brand clothing, the price isn’t cheap, but the value is very high at $80.

Best Long Sleeve T-Shirt: M’s Capilene 1 Crew. Simply put, this is one outstanding longsleeved T-shirt. It is so light you can wear it to protect your skin from the sun even in the hottest temperatures. Available in black, gray, orange, and blue, this T-shirt is as fashionable as it is functional. Available for $38.

Best Bottoms (no, not those!): M’s Capilene 2 Bottoms. It stands to reason that this brand produces clothing of similar quality and design for both T-shirts and bottoms. I must say that the combination of these two provide an excellent trekking experience, as they are both lightweight and loose fitting without appearing baggy. Available in gray, black and blue for $36.

As you can see, even if high Sierra brand clothing doesn’t exist, you can still find great outdoor wear it will last for years to come with Patagonia.
