Beach Shade Tents
A beach shade tent can add hours of enjoyment to your afternoon, and remove several days of pain due to sunburn. They are both cost effective (read: “cheap”) and easy to set up. Here are a list of tips for what to look for when shopping for a shade tent.
Figure the size you want shaded. While this may go without saying, many people purchase a shade tent that will cover them assuming the sun is directly overhead. Remember, just because there’s shade at noon, does not mean there will be shade at five. The easy fix is to purchase a larger tent, so you will have more surface area covered. Before you set up your tent, note where the sun is at the moment, and estimate where you think the sun will set. Place your picnic area (or other stuff you don’t want to move twice) at the back end of the shaded area (away from the setting sun); this will ensure your goodies stay cool all day.
Consider small weights. Many a beach shade tent has been lost due to strong, unexpected winds. Remember, these tents were built for warm, sunny days. For a few extra dollars you can purchase weights to keep them attached to your picnic area. You could also use a few small weights from your home gym, toolbox, cooler, etc.
Set up the tent first. Most shade tents require two people to set them up, and you’ll save a lot of headaches getting this situated first. Once the tent is up you will know where the shade lies now, and where it will likely be in a few hours, which allows you set up the rest of your gear accordingly.
Remember, a beach shade tent can really make the coast a lot more enjoyable, and you can purchase a quality one for less than forty bucks.
