OK, let’s get moving: Imagine you want to fly from Phoenix, AZ to Munch to party it up for Oktoberfest (don’t we all?). Now, most folks would probably just search for a cheap air flight using those cities only, and this my friends is where they go wrong.
Seeing that you want to fly cheap to Europe, here’s what you do: First, you looks for the cheapest flight possible to either New York or Atlanta (both are main hubs for flights to Europe). Book these as round trips, probably with a low cost carrier like Southwest or Jet Blue. This is also an ideal time to use any rewards points you may have. Second, look for cheap flights to Europe hubs, most notably London, Amsterdam or Frankfurt. In this example we found the cheapest to be London. Third, book the cheapest domestic flight within Europe to Munich. Seeing that you are traveling during the high season will mean that you pay more, but providers such as EZJet or RyanAir can fly you there at a reasonable price year round. Why does this strategy work? It’s really quite simple; airlines don’t make as much money on overseas popular flights (like to London) because more people travel that route. In other words, they don’t have to go out of their way to find people who want a flight from New York to London. However, the more complicated you make the trip, the less likely you are to get a good deal with just one airline. In addition, low cost providers like Southwest often don’t show up in search results (because they are a non traditional carrier, they don’t participate in the same system as the traditional airlines). Using this strategy you will no doubt be able to find cheap air flights to Europe. |
