Travel Packages for Hawaii
Here’s how to score some great Travel Packages to Hawaii
Whether it’s the sandy shores of Waikiki or the crystal clear diving off the coast of Maui, many people turn to travel packages for Hawaii in order to either save some money or time. Truth be told, if you don’t do your homework, you may waste both.
How? Let’s say you book a vacation package to Oahu (as I’ve done before). You opt for a hotel and air package, and purchase it several months in advance. While it seems a good idea at the time, you could have saved some money by shopping for them independently.
The key is where you shop.
If you go to a travel website and search for flights and hotels separately, you’ll usually find a better deal booking a travel package on that same website. However, if you shop for the flights from a bucket shop (also known as a “consolidator”) and search for hotels with the Hotel Reservation Network (the source that Priceline and Travelocity go to for hotels). In searching with wholesale providers, you’re more likely to find a better deal.
But, wouldn’t it make sense to book travel packages for Hawaii if you wanted to save time? More than likely, you could book the flight and hotel separately in the same amount time as a travel package.
So, in reality, you’re spending more money for the same amount of time, and with less flexibility. Sounds good, huh?
There is only one reason to book vacation packages: minimal effort. Sure, you could shop around and get a better deal elsewhere, but sometimes it’s just easier to click the mouse a few times and move one with your life.
A friend of mine went to Hawaii with her husband and six relatives. Though I cautioned her to shop around, she ended up going with a package deal. The idea of arranging travel for that many people was too much for her to handle (and who can blame her?) and the answer was a travel package for Hawaii. The planning took her less than hour, and proved stress free. Guess I can’t be right all the time…
