For my wife and I, a five week cycling trip through Ireland seemed very romantic in theory, but in reality, we were often smelling less than sweet and were exhausted from the days ride in the rain. Trust me, there’s nothing amorous about rain, mud and thirty miles on a bicycle.
So here are some of our favorite romantic travel destinations. Paris. Well, we might as well get the obvious one out of the way. Known as “The City of Light” there is no destination in the world as beautiful at night as Paris. Sahara. Though it may be hot as blazes during the day, the Sahara desert at night under moonlight is truly romantic; the solitude and slopes of the sand dunes are a beautiful way to end the day. Prague. This is the true city for lovers. This is my wife’s favorite choice, who believes that Prague offers the romance that Paris does, but without the urban clutter. Everything, and I mean everything, is gorgeous about this city. Try to get a hotel room high up so you can enjoy the skyline at dusk. Buenos Aires. Home of the tango, which I once heard aptly described as “a vertical dance invoking a horizontal desire.” Add to that the wonderful music, cuisine, and fine wine, and you’ve got a truly romantic getaway. Thailand coast. Not only is it cheap, but it is a great place for the two of you to exercise and work on your tan. Thai food is among some of the most sensuous in my opinion: a combination of sweet and spicy… Keep in mind these are just the most romantic travel destinations we’ve been on, and everyone has their favorites; still, I hope that this list will inspire you and your loved one to explore some new getaways for yourself. |
