Exotic Romantic Vacations
A travel agent reveals some of the most exotic romantic vacations…
My wife and I agreed that our honeymoon was to be something other than a one week splurge at a resort. As a travel agent, I’ve seen far too many folks spend tens of thousands of dollars for a two-week trip to Hawaii, Bora Bora, Cancun… you name it.
If you are considering a getaway with your loved one, PLEASE consider the following exotic romantic vacations before breaking the bank on a so-called “trip of a lifetime”:
The Sahara Desert. There is simply no place in the world like the Sahara. While many cities in North Africa have lost their charm due to invading hordes of tourists, you should spend some time in Marrakech, which has managed to retain that ancient exotic atmosphere. Check out the bazaars, and stay in a traditional riad (a courtyard guest house) for at least a few days before heading to the desert. The sand dunes under moonlight are one of the most sensual images in the world…
Hoi An, Vietnam. Yes, this is pretty touristy, but Hoi An, much like Marrakech, has retained much of its old world colonial charm (thanks in part to its protected area during the American War). Here you can find nice accommodation for less than $20 a night, including hot showers, toilets and free Wifi. Long walks along the water, and delicious restaurants make Hoi An a very romantic city. From there, you can also take a short trip to Hanoi or Ha Long Bay (both highly recommended).
Ice Hotel, Jukkasjarvi, Sweeden. A true original in the world: imagine an 80 room hotel, with a spacious lobby, bar and fireplaces… made completely out of ice. The original Ice Hotel was built, well, last year, and will be rebuilt this winter from the waters of the very deep (and very cold) river Torne. As you can imagine, this wonder is only available from December through April. These are three exotic romantic vacations that are sure to whet you and your partner’s appetite for more adventures to come. Have fun and explore! |
