Marmaris Weekly Cruises

Why Marmaris Weekly Cruises May Be Just What The Doctor Ordered…

For those of you who have explored this wonderful portion of Southwest Turkey, you’ll have no doubt returned at least once (or are planning to). While word is out about this Mediterranean gem, Marmaris wholly retains its culture and old world charm amidst some of the finest night life in Turkey.

Here are two great options for anyone interested in Marmaris weekly cruises. If planning a round trip cruise from Marmaris, consider the 8 day cruise package from Olympos Yachting (I’m not being paid to say this, the’re just really good!). Your adventure begins with a night on the town, giving you a chance to enjoy the renowned Marmaris nightlife, before boarding your gullet for the night in the harbor. En route to Fethiye (another Turkish highlight for cruises) you’ll overnight in Ekincik. While here I strongly suggest visiting the ancient city of Kaunos, just off the river Kalbis. The ruins provide a wonderful backdrop for an afternoon stroll along the river.

The fourth night is spent in the Fethiye harbor, just outside of Gocek. If you have time, I recommend spending more time in Gocek than the allotted time within a weekly cruise. High up in the mountains of Fethiye lies the not-to-be-missed Saklikent Canyon. At 300 metres deep and 18 kilometers long (the second longest canyon in Europe), and featuring emerald green waters, Saklikent Canyon is a photographers dream location.

From Fethiye, you begin heading back to Marmaris, stopping for the night at Domuz Island and Baba Island. The seventh night is spent back in Marmaris, although you may be able to disembark on the seventh night, if you are strapped for time.

Alternatively, you could try this weekly cruise in reverse; starting from and ending in Fethiye. There are good reasons to do so. You can spend a few nights on Marmaris, then head west from Fethiye to Gocek for a few days. Or, you can head east to Kekova (a true highlight) while stopping in Kemer as a midpoint. As you can see, Marmaris weekly cruises are a fantastic way to see this magnificent part of Turkey, and can easily be built into part of a larger itinerary along the Mediterranean.
