Bodrum Karacasogut Cruises
Yet another Turkish gem: Bodrum Karacasogut cruises!
While many people choose to cruise from Bodrum to the town of Marmaris, there is a shorter option available that takes you within 24 km of Marmaris. Bodrum Karacasogut cruises are a great value for those interested in a short, three to four day cruise, this is the one for you.
The town of Bodrum is a fixture among Turkish cruises, and makes a great starting point. Try to arrive a few days before your cruise to allow some time in the town proper. The nightlife here is above par (though not as good as in Marmaris) while the beaches are crystal clear with sky blue waters and white sand.
Just outside of Bodrum lies the Seven Islands, which most cruise operators use as a stopping point.
Most cruises tend to start from Bodrum, ending in Karacasogut. The town of Karacasogut is the antithesis of many Turkish harbors; it is a simple bay, with a handful of restaurants and a quaint, local flavor. The town of Karacasogut itself isn't the main draw for tourists: rather, there are two points of interest that many cruise operators frequent.
The first is Sedir Island, also known as "Cleopatra's Beach." As the legend goes, star-crossed lovers, Cleopatra and Marc Anthony, use to swim in the waters here. The sand is a remarkably fine golden color, and the locals claim that the sand was shipped in from Africa!
The second point of interest is English Harbour, which was a hiding spot for British submarines during World War II. The harbour here is lovely, and provides a fantastic backdrop for swimming or sunbathing. Blue Cruises offers several amazing cruise packages, and Bodrum Karacasogut cruises are generally the shortest available. Alternatively, you could search for travel agent specials at travel-library.com (one of my favorite travel sites). While short, these cruises provide high value, generally costing less than $400 all inclusive. Best of luck and happy sailing!
