In this article we will touch upon several options for cheap weekend getaways in the US, and when the best time is to take advantage of these trips.
Las Vegas. Probably the single most popular weekend getaway for Americans. Despite numerous stories to the contrary, you can find several cheap ways to enjoy the City of Sin. My advice is to check out lasvegas.com for current deals on hotels, then head towards the coupon books that line the strip. You can get several great deals on food and attractions in these booklets. Also, purchase a huge beverage from Fat Tuesday’s and keep refilling with your own bottle of booze (this eliminates paying ten dollars for a drink!). Yosemite. If you are anywhere near California, Yosemite is the ultimate cheap weekend getaway. Here you can drive in and marvel at Yosemite valley, hang out in the lodge during the day, and prepare for the classic hike to the top of Half Dome the following day. Key West, Florida. Definitely not the cheapest place to camp, but if you plan far ahead enough you can live the island lifestyle for the weekend. Check out the downtown area (particularly the sundown market at dusk), and keep an eye out for the clothing optional bars. Washington, DC. This is a great cheap weekend getaway. DC is pretty much a walker’s town, and you can see just about every point of interest for free (the only word better than “cheap.”) Make sure to check out the major monuments at night time, then head up to the Adams-Morgan district for some killer soul food.
